The Macallan and James Bond reunite. Following on from The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release, The Macallan celebrates the 55th anniversary of Diamonds Are Forever with a new release.
A novel exploration of two innovative and pioneering characters, the release is an expression of the film's narrative, taking inspiration from Bond’s connoisseurship of sherry wine - revealed early in the story when he ‘noses’ a Solera sherry.
Backstory. Sherry seasoning is fundamental to the crafting and maturation of The Macallan's exceptional oak casks, which are the single greatest contributor to the distinctive aromas, flavours and natural colours of its single malt whisky. For this release Whisky Maker Russell Greig celebrates 007’s connoisseurship of sherry through an unusual selection of sherry and red wine casks, distilled in 2-007.
Details. The Macallan’s mastery and Bond’s connoisseurship unite in Russell’s diamond selection of sherry seasoned oak casks for this single malt. A man of many dimensions, 007's forensic knowledge of red wine ultimately saves his life: a pivotal scene delectably translated through the unusual inclusion of red wine seasoned casks. The cask selection of this whisky is complete with bespoke hybrid sherry seasoned oak casks – custom-made casks crafted from both European and American oak staves in one singular cask. This choice is an echo to the inventiveness of the science behind Bond and the film's locations in England, France and the Netherlands.
The design and colours of the new release is an exploration of the Diamonds Are Forever archive. Its packaging gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative development of the 1971 production, featuring clones, laser beams, Blofeld’s white cat and Las Vegas locations, while the hues of the film's title sequence has inspired the colour.
