007 returns to The Royal Mint with a seven-coin journey through the decades celebrating the legacy of James Bond.
The James Bond 1oz Gold Proof Coin - 1980s Numbered Edition by The Royal Mint is a celebration of the Bond films of the 1980s with a coin designed by award-winning design agency Bison Bison. The coin features 007 in the BD-5J Acrostar Microjet from the opening sequence of Octopussy, and is released in an edition of 260.
Backstory. The jet appears in the film’s memorable pre-title sequence, as Bond bids to escape troops in an unspecified South American country, leaping into a Range Rover that’s towing what appears to be a horse-trailer. As the enemy troops race towards him, Bond emerges from the horse-trailer in the Acrostar, its wings unfolding before it takes off over the heads of his pursuers. The troops fire a surface-to-air missile, which, after some nimble flying, 007 guides into an aircraft hangar blowing it sky high. The wings of the Acrostar can also be seen in Die Another Day propped up in Q's underground workshop.
Details. This is a coin made from 1oz gold, featuring the jet in relief against inscriptions of all the 1980s film titles, with the '80s 007 logo within a gun barrel frame. On the obverse is a portrait of King Charles, dated 2024. Each coin comes with commemorative packaging detailing James Bond’s 1980s history and a numbered certificate of authenticity.
